Weekly Train Layout Update

Mon, Apr 29, 2024

Our first arrivals. Rob & Jordan.

Our third arrival was a BIG surprise.
Carlos helped a lot in the lighting at the beginning
of layout construction.

Carlos went to work removing the coal loads from
the Unit Coal Train recent arrival at the Melrose Park
Power Plant.

Nice work, Carlos!

Our fourth person arriving for the session is Marcus!

He and Carlos will continue work at the Cascading
Rock Project.

Carlos picked up a paint brush and some green paint
to put down as the base for the grass we'll plant next week.

As Rob brings in EB Train 5A into the yard,
Marcus takes a look over his shoulder.

Checking out the details on the layout.

Rob finished up tonight checking the lights on some
yard spots Marcus brought tonight to replace the burned
out bulbs currently on the layout.

Rob is making a base for the spot light lamps.

Working on some lighting upgrades...

Adding extension wires to the base of one of the spot
light towers. I'll solder those connections and...

...get ready to put them in these two holes.
See the saw dust at the opening of the hole?

Here's where they will be installed.
I'm going to keep the original just in case I can
get it to work again.

That took about .75 of an hour.

Working on the RR...

Moving Commuter Trains around...

That took about 15 minutes
(I was late taking this photo)

Now it's time to install the Proviso Yard East spots.

Installed, now to wire them up.

That took another 15 minutes for a total of 30 minutes.

No train activity today.

Working on wiring...

I'm going to attempt to wire up the two outer spot lights.

How it looks under the layout.

You can trace the wires from
the light fixture to the power.

Yeah, I did get these working, but there's still
something wrong with the middle spots.

Meanwhile, at the other side of Proviso, I wanted
to see if I could find anything out of place.
I did!
The wire in my hand was disconnected.

I connected it back into the other white wires.

I forgot to mention when Marcus was here on Monday
he brought a piece of foam board to use as a light
barrier to keep the glare off the puzzle.

It worked!

Testing the lights in the North Power district west end.
No success. Back to the drawing board.

The first part took 15 minutes.
The last part took 45 minutes - total 1 hour.
