Tonight, I'm going to start to work on the upper wall. I wasn't going to do this, but my desire to match the prototype took over and now I'm doing it. |
Lining up the pieces and seeing how they'll fit together. |
My technique will change a bit on the upper wall... I plan on putting sections together FIRST before I paint each part. |
I have some bridge parts I will use with this section over the underpass. |
I use the tape to hold the pieces together as the glue sets.
Progress on the sections. |
Numbering the locations so I know where each section will be placed. |
I number the ground where the sections will be located. |
This is section 12 at the far end of Chicago Terminal |
I will call this picture, "The Mock Up". |

Train Day!
Just me 6-7pm 1 hr.
Getting ready to prepare this part to match the prototype |
Basic pattern is complete - ready for painting. |
Painting finished added the clock face. |
This is the prototype I'm trying to model. |
I need to weather it a bit, but what do you think? Kinda close? |

Cutting out the Cornice pieces for the top of the upper wall sections. |
Worked on this project for 23 minutes today. |
Gluing on the Cornice pieces to the top of the wall. |
Tape is used to hold the Cornice piece in place while the glue dries. |
All the sections taped up and waiting for glue to set. |

I removed all the blue tape from the wall sections. |
All the wall sections laid out and ready for painting. |
First one coat...and then another. |
Also need to paint the back side, since you'll be able to see this from the other side of Chicago Terminal |
Final coat of paint. |
Turn over the sections and wait for paint to dry. |
Always keep a clean work area after finishing a project. Tools put away ready for another project. |
Even the workbench looks a bit better. More to do until this is acceptable. |
Later that day...
Look what came in the mail today. Stairway to "L" tracks $23.87 |
Thu, Jan 16, 2025
Started putting the stairs to the "L" tracks together...
The directions said, "No glue required" but... |
...the stairs wouldn't stay together, so I had to glue them together. |
Next: I need to cut down the platform to fit and then kitbash the rest of the platform.
Should be fun!
Later that day...
Finishing the upper wall along Clinton Street Chicago Terminal |
Check this out with the prototype below: |
This is what I'm attempting to model. |

DONE! |
Now to figure out how to make this fit into my space. |
Putting parts in place to see how they fit. |
Working my way up to the Lake Street "L" track |
Session One took about 1 hour. |
SECOND SESSION
This session will include kitbashing the Lake Street station platform |
Checking to see how it fits the space. |
Adding guard rails. |
Finishing the guard rails. Note the curve. |
