Train Day!
w/Rob Fair and Jordan Osborn
5:45-8:15pm 2.5 hrs.

Lots accomplished tonight...

Rob Fair shows us a video update of his layout.

Jordan getting an "up close and personal" view.

Rob Fair will be working on installing Crossover #3 tonight.

Gathering all the necessary tools.

Splicing and cutting to length.

While Rob works on Crossover #3, Jordan and I will work
on switching the commuter coaches and cabs from
Chicago Terminal to California Avenue Maintenance Facility.

Now we're moving the coaches/cabs to the Coach Yard.

More train movements to the coach yard.

Jordan Osborn takes a break to say "Hi" to his fans.

Overhead video camera view of Rob working the RR.

Now a closeup of Rob almost finishing tonight's project.

Final moves from the Maintenance Facility to the Coach Yard.

Mission Accomplished.

Final looks at Rob's installation of Crossover #3

I did a little work on Crossover #3...

I secured the switch machine with two wood screws.

I also ran the orange and white wires so they weren't interfering with the tracks.

Here's the progress from another perspective.

Hopefully I will do some soldering and power up the switches in the next day or two...

Soldering Feeder Wires to Track tonight.
1 hour

You can see two orange wires soldered to the track.

From another view you can also see the
white feeder wire connected to the outside rail

A couple more feeder wires soldered to the rails.

Two pairs of feeder wires not yet connected.
One pair on the near tracks far left and
one pair on the middle track far right.

Those same connections now soldered.

And now!
To finish the wiring on the switch machines.

A video capture of the switch machines
Duration: 00:00:33 sec.

Another try at capturing the action without the action
Duration: 00:00:27 sec.

Close up of the wires pulled down.

The same on the other crossover switch

Crossover #3 complete!

Point of reference:
I like this look so much better than the old look.
The tracks just seem to "flow" better now.

What I mean by "flow" is this: If we're switching to the main line from the industrial park and there's a train on the inside main line, that train can take crossover #3 on the divergent and avoid the industrial park switching train. Make sense?

Hopefully I can take a video soon - and see the Crossover #3 Switch Machines in real-time ACTION!
