Train Day!

w/Rob Fair, Milt Feryance, Jordan Osborn

6-8pm 2 hrs.

Rob Fair will work the Unit Coal Train (2A WB) from the Melrose Park Power Plant to Powder River Basin in Wyoming. He is unloading the car loads right now...

Jordan and Milt will work Proviso Yard inserting the Test Cars into their respective trains.

Rob pulling the power (AC6000 #7510) from the UP Engine Facility Track 5 (UPEF5).

Milt takes the throttle as Jordan keeps an eye on tonight's operations.
I took the conductor's role and directed the connections.

This picture shows the local freight approaching the crossover which will move this train from the EB mainline to the PYUP Yard (WB).

After the crew left I did a bit more on the Train Order Board...

I need to figure out a way to move the Mixed Freight from one yard to the other. As I make the moves I also need to be sure there is enough room in the destination yard. This mock up will ensure the space is available and the trains will be able to depart one yard with a destination in place at the other yard.

Tonight I'm going to work at Global 1

The well cars are all out of place.
If you look closely they are off the tracks and some containers have shifted.

In my attempt to put the cars in order, I needed to figure out what numbers were on which cars.
This sheet shows how I marked them out and the order they should be which is the numbers in the boxes.

This is a shot of the train put in order starting on track 5 working to the right with the rear of the train on track 1 (closest to the mainline).

Looks like a very busy place to be. Tonight it was very active.

I messed up the order of the Global 1 well car trains.

Here's the sheet with the corrections:

I changed the drop off so the train would enter Global 1 by backing in at the west end of the yard instead of approaching a frontal approach at the east end of the yard. Why the change?
Well, even after entering the east end you still need to back the train in, so why not just back in the whole train from the WB track crossover to the EB track (briefly) and then enter Global 1 from the west.

Today I'm going to work on the piggy-back train (2C)

SW8 CNW #1518 pulling the piggy-back Train 2C into a train.

Moving around cars to put them in order.

A few more moves before we can put Train 2C together and prepare for departure.

SW8 CNW #1518 finished its work and now the road power (B2) takes over and takes the train out to the mainline (going WB on EB track 2)

Approaching the crossover which will switch from WB running on EB track 2 to WB running on WB Track 1.

Train proceeding through the crossover which will then start running left hand run on WB Track 1.
