Train Day!
w/Rob Fair 6-8pm 2 hours

Lots accomplished tonight...take a look...

Tonight our goal is to install crossover 2.5 - see Project Priority List Item A

While Rob works on the crossover, I'm going to work on wiring up the trucks at PRB.

I'm going to start with this one at the Coal Plant.

Rob making progress.
One section of the mainline removed.
Ready to install the first switch.

Length: 00:00:10 sec.

I'm adding the lead wires to the truck lights.

Back at crossover 2.5 where Rob has removed the mainline and ready to install switch #2.

YES! Rob was able to finish the project tonight!
Nice work, Rob!!!

Another perspective.

This is what I did tonight:
I installed the two truck headlights, three room lights, and three porch lights.
Good thing they are all 12 volt lights.
However, I think the porch lights will need resistors because the lights appear to be way too bright.

Tomorrow I'll wire them up and let you decide.

Connecting the feeder wires to the light wires on the PRB bridge truck.

Connected the truck lights to power to show you what it looks like all lit up.

Testing the look of the PRB bridge truck with the headlights on.

What to do about the wiring...
BEFORE
Length: 00:00:23 sec.

Instead of doing all the wiring under the layout, I decided to make it easier on myself by doing all the wiring above the layout and use the building to hide all the connections.

Testing my wiring. Not good. I'm going to need to make some changes.

Stopped at B&G today to pick up the under-table switch machines

Now I need to figure out how to connect the wires.
Time to put on my detective hat.

The cost of the two switch machines.

Here's the photo of the new way to connect the wires.
The following video explains what I'm doing...

Getting ready to wire up Crossover 2.5

Switch Machine in place, now it's time to figure out how to wire this pup up.

What do the lights look like at night?
Length: 00:00:27 sec.

New wiring arrangement. This was sooooo much easier than trying to wire everything up from underneath the layout.

Another view...

Close up of the copper strips used to hold the (+) red wires and the (-) green, white, black wires.

Getting ready to install "asphalt" around the Coal Plant.

"Asphalt" installed with glue. Now we wait for the weights to hold it in place.

Weights removed and there you have it!
Still need to figure out what to do with the space between the "asphalt" and the edge of the facia.

SPECIAL GUESTS
My Mom and Dad.
At first Mom told Dad, "I'm not going down to the basement."
But when I asked if they wanted to see the train tonight, she said, "Sure".
Asked why she didn't want to go previously, she said, "Well, that was then and this is now."
Way to go Mom!

Sat, Jul 3, 2021

Working on the highway next to the Coal Plant.

I needed 1/2" to insert as a "filler".
This sheet came from Chrissa Osborn, my neighbor.

"Filler" piece in place.

Time to install the road.

I decided to install a curb to separate the road from the coal plant.
Because of the curb, we also had to re-engineer the road.
You can see it is curved out and then back in...see next week for more updates...
