Let's see how I do...

Wednesday, June 17, 2020

No train activity today.
Stayed home from work with a headache.
Not even well enough to work on the train.
UGH!

Thursday, June 18, 2020

Need to clean out the materials from behind the bridge.

Temporary storage.
I need to figure out where this should go when we finish.

Nice and clean and neat.

Not so much.

Tomorrow I will cut this fabric for the skirting at PRB.

Friday, June 19, 2020

I cut the first section and ready to install.

Jan helped me cut the rest.
It's easier cutting right handed than left handed.
Thanks Jan!!!

Skirting in place.

Hides the mess behind the skirt.

Well, today is the last day to meet my goal.
Let's see if I do...

Cutting out the fascia boards on the driveway.

I used the plywood as my guide and cut each one the same size.

Here are all the boards ready to be transported to the basement.

Making progress.

DONE!

I also remembered a section in Chicago that needed fascia.
BEFORE...

AFTER
Doesn't that look neat & finished?

GOAL complete.
Now to get a start on next week's goal...
Need to transform my workbench to prepare for next week...
Length: 00:00:28 sec.

Ready for next week's goal.
Next week's GOAL:
Wire up the four UP5s and install them on the layout fascia.

Train Day with Jordan Osborn
6-7:15pm 1.25 hrs.
After cleaning the tracks last week we thought we better clean the wheels on the locomotives.
I already cleaned the UP locomotives.

Now it's time to finish off the CNW locomotives.
Some of these date back more the 20 years.

Jordan Osborn came up with a great idea to clean the wheels on the Amtrak locomotive.
We got out one of our old transformers and wired up a test track and used that to clean the wheels.

One more look at the engines waiting or already cleaned.

No Train Activity today.

Wednesday, June 10, 2020

Today I'm going to begin wiring up the Parking Lot Lights.
I began with #8 and will test each one as I go to #1.

No Train Activity Today.

Friday, June 12, 2020

Here is what it looks like underneath.
Lots of hanging wires.

First I wired up the red to orange and black to white.
The light didn't go on.

Then I switched the red to white and the black to red and the light went on!
LED are tricky that way. They need the red to go to (+) and the black to go to (-).

SUCCESS!
#8 is on and working nicely.
This pic is taken with FLASH.

Same pictures without the FLASH.

Later in the day I was able to put up a "canopy" of wires to attach the wires of the other light poles.

Another picture of the wires switched to connect the (+) and (-) properly.

After more meticulous wiring I finally finished the parking lot lights.
Dock-side view.

Office-side view.
I really like the affect.

Week 305

Sunday, May 31, 2020 thru Saturday, June 6, 2020

This week's goals:
1. Finish sifting sand.
2. Finish wiring parking  lot lights.
3. Film Season 1 Episode 5

Sunday, May 31, 2020

Parking lot is completely installed.
Glue is dried and secured.

Office entrance view.

Dock view.
I noticed there wasn't a lot of room for the truck loads to manuever so I decided to extend the asphalt at the dock.

Glue is down waiting for asphalt layer.

While the additions are drying I'll paint the lines in th lot.

Just using chalk, but I like it.
Here you can see the marks where I'll install the parking lot light poles.

Light poles in place.

SPECIAL GUESTS: Ida & Charlie Zielke

When I got home from work today, I had two special guests who said, "Boppa, I want to see the train." YES!

All Charlie needs is an engineer's cap!

Ida Zielke is still interested in playing trains with Boppa.

Where's that smile?

TRAIN DAY IS BACK!
Rob Fair couldn't come tonight, but Jordan is BACK!
Yeah!
6-7:15pm 1.25 hrs.
Peace OUT (or should I say, IN?)
Jordan and I will clean the track tonight.
Here you can see the track cleaning car leading UP7510.

Tonight I tested out some resistors to see which ones would work for the parking lot lights...
If I read the stripes correctly these are 850 ohlms resistors.
I tested four resistors all together.
These three were in separate bags in a drawer in the electronics cabinet.

These resistors came with the light fixtures when I purchased them from China.

Test light 1 using 12v transformer.

Test light 2 using 12v transformer.

Test light 3 using 12v transformer.

Test light 4 using 12v transformer.
Summary:
I don't think there's much of a difference in the four tests.
I ended up using the resistors that came with the light fixtures.

TRAIN DAY!
Our second session since the pandemic stay-at-home orders were put in place.
Jordan Osborn stopped by from 4-5pm.

Welcome Back Train Friends!
We're back in business!

This Episode Introduction never made it to the final cut because...
Length: 00:00:33 sec.

Jordan calling his Dad to ask about GooGone on the rails.

...we had problems on the mainline
Length: 00:00:25 sec.

Thursday, June 4, 2020

No Train Activity today.

Friday, June 5, 2020

SPECIAL GUESTS:
Joe DiFiglio and Jack Fischer
Jan kept Leslie and Phyllis upstairs for clean-up.
They missed the show and it was a really good one!

Saturday, June 6, 2020

Today I spent an hour cleaning the mainline track with White Vinegar and water.
The one side of the t-shirt is drenched with the vinegar the  other side is drenched with water.

Hopefully this will do the trick.
You'll need to check next week for the final results.

My goal this week was to finish the parking lot lighting.
That didn't happen because of the rail cleaning disaster.

By the way, if I didn't make it clear earlier...Jordan and I cleaned the rails using the track cleaning car and GooGone on Monday. On Wedenesday, when we wanted to run the mixed freight the UP7510 AC6000 wouldn't run on the "new cleaned" rails. After further research we read about using vinegar and water to clean the rails. That's what I did and that's where we stand right now.

Next week I'll run more trains and see how they respond on the new cleaned rails.
