basement train layout.

Rob models the Horseshoe Curve on his Pennsylvania
themed layout

Waiting for the paint to dry before weathering.

Rob gets settled into the cab at Central Control Tower.
He will run the Commuter Train 1C WB (outbound)
Chicago Terminal to Geneva

At the Train Order Board we see this is Train Priority2
We are a bit out of order, but this will put us back on track.

Commuter Train 1C Track 3
departing Chicago Terminal

After completing his mission, Rob gets back to work
weathering the concrete wall.

Looks good. Just enough to take away the "clean" look.

First we add the gray mortar mix.

Then to give it a little more pop we dab it with
the black mortar mix.

Making sure we also weather the top of the wall.

Finished product glued in place.

Nice work tonight men!

No train activity today.

Getting some work done on the layout at the long & winding road...

Picking up the leftover "grass" from the side of the road.

Used the card stock to brush the "grass" to save it.

Kept quite a bit of the coarse "grass".

Now to glue the shoulders and apply the fine sand.

Wait 24 hours for drying time and save the sand
that didn't stick to the glue.

Just a little more progress on the Left of the Bridge Project...

Putting in the "sand" on the shoulder of the road...

...on both sides.

More work on the Long & Winding Road...

Finishing touches.

Running Commuter Train 1A Chicago Terminal
to Harvard Metra NW line.

Here's the paperwork I call
"Train Cars in Consist"

I'll be running this train using the command station
DCS 51 so I can watch the train from the monitors.

That run took 19 minutes.

Here's the end of the Metra
NW line at Harvard IL

And now for something completely different!
Jordan Osborn's dad, Chris Osborn, is in town soooo...
...we decided to go on an adventure.

Here are the still shots from the trip...

We started off in my basement checking out the progress made on my layout since Chris's last visit:

FIRST STOP
Here is Chris checking out Proviso Yard.
Note to self: I really need to get rid of those hanging cables.

Jordan at the controls.

Checking out the outdoor dining at the local restaurants...

...and the billboards atop the warehouse building.

NEXT STOP
Hamburger Heaven in Elmhurst IL
at the corner of Rt 64 & York Street.

Chris & Jordan Osborn waiting for our orders.

NEXT STOP
The Elmhurst Model RR Club

Jordan & Chris taking a closer look.

One of the station stops under construction.

Another station stop, but this one is elevated.
Nice.

Notice the signage?
Rob Fair just sent me a text message about these signs,
called...

"Burma-Shave" signs.

Nice scene with lights and loads of details.

Moving to the N scale layout.
This is a replica of the Elmhurst Metra Train Station.

Back to the HO scale layout.
Night scene.

Another finished station stop.
I really enjoyed checking out the details.

Another view.

LAST STOP
Valley Model Railroad
South Elgin IL

Chris leaning in for a better look.

Marcus has left his mark many places at this club layout.
Check it out in these pictures and the video presentation on YouTube.

More of Marcus Thorsen's work shown here.

View of the large freight yard.
There were about 5 trains running tonight by youth
having a great time!

This is a view of their main passenger terminal.

A view of the industrial park along the wall and the
trolley tracks around the town.

An overall view of the quadruple level layout.

Some fun on the layout...

Running Metra Commuter Train 1B from Chicago Terminal to Harvard:

Starting out with UT4 throttle to power up F40PH #151

Picking up #151 from CT Engine Maintenance Shop

Here's the train consist waiting on Track 6.

Connecting the train together. Testing air brakes.

Switching over to DCS 51 for mainline operations
and to view train from Central Control Tower.

Metra Commuter Train 1B leaving Chicago Terminal

How that same train leaving Chicago Terminal
looks from the monitor.

Oops, I lost a car...

The only problem with this
train was uncoupling of cars
2 & 3 going WB to Harvard.

We have arrived safe and sound at Harvard.
We'll wait here until our return trip back to Chicago Terminal.
