We had only two railroaders show up today.

Here's what we did...

Jordan Osborn ran a Westbound UP mixed freight train 5 laps on Track 2 led by UP AC6000 7510

We also installed Clipboard Progress Report Sheets at 6 locations.
Three are shown here at Kedzie Avenue, California Avenue Yard, and Union Station.

Three more are shown here in the South Power District.
One is for the Western Avenue Buildup, the other for UP Global 1 and finally one more for improvements at Geneva Station.

Today wasn't really a tran day, but it was very much related since all my landscape materials would be held in this new cabinet which my brother, Bill, dropped off from work today.
Cleared out the room to make room for the new cabinet.

I added a horizontal piece to even out the back support.

Here's the cabinet ready to adjust the shelving.

Cabinet installed.

Cabinet filled.

What a deal. The first three cars were $5 each. The coal car was $8.
Total spent: $23
Very happy.
Cars have metal wheel sets and factory installed grab irons.
Nice details.
Later tonight I worked on securing the sidewalk.

All the way around the building.

I also finished the chain link fence with the materials we had.

Another view from the side.

TRAIN DAY!

Brought to you by Ed Nelson, Dean Hatzis, Curt Berg, & Jordan Osborn

After discussions on Union Station we got back to work.

Dean Hatzis is making a whole for the stairwell at Kedzie Avenue.

Ed Nelson changes out the horn hook couples for knuckle couplers on an excursion car.

Jordan Osborn a bit zoned out.
Actually he brought his sword (in his right hand) to sharpen and clean up a bit.

Ed Nelson working on the excursion car.
Dean Hatzis prepares to go down under.
You can see the four holes he has drilled which will be the four corners of the stair well.

Now you can see the opening Dean made with the jig saw.

Ed's finished excursion car.
Now we have four cars.

Dean Hatzis cleaning up.

We drew some pictures and will finish this task by the time Dean returns in two weeks.
This shot will be the "BEFORE" shot.
Then I'll shoot the "AFTER" shot at its completion.
This is the drawing of the platform entrance from the street to the upper level by stairs.

I stopped by Lowe's on the way home from church and bought some liquid solder.
It really worked great! I could've used heat shrink, but this worked even better and was much easier.

Here's a closeup of the liquid joints.

I've labeled the resisters that will need to be attached before completing the wiring.
I already burned one unit out when I tested using 9v direct. Without resister, it blew out.
Bummer!

I've labeled the holes I drilled for each of the "high lights" in Global 1.

Another view of the "high lights".

Still another view.

And finally the straight on view.

Rob Fair using the hair dryer to straighten one of the base tubes.

If you could see a closeup of this picture you'd see the tubes I bought from Menards today fit perfectly.

Rob Fair installing the tubes from the bottom.

We had several guests at the Train Day today.
My brother, Neal, visiting from Vietnam. That's my Dad next to him.

My Mom also taking an interst in the trains.

Josh Jones and Jordan Osborn stopped by for about 45 minutes.

Neal was taking video shots for his grandson, Landon.

Rob Fair running wires for the two buildings in the foreground.

Mission accomplished. No wires showing across Western Avenue anymore!
Thanks Rob!!!

TRAIN DAY!

Brought to you by Ed Nelson, Jordan Osborn and me.

Jordan Osborn completing paperwork.
We're getting our lists ready for the train show this weekend.

Ed Nelson will lay out the streets, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters around Union Station tonight.

Making progress...

Nicely done!
Next step is to cut the actual board for the section of the city above the train terminal.

Saturday, March 11, 2017
I caught up on some projects we've been working on...

Back working on the chain link fence surrounding Global 1.

Also getting the sidewalk in place on the north side of Midland Warehouse.
